Haha ok I had the same problem and I solved it,just move the chair closer to the table,you won't be able to bend because of the table (unless you want to suffocate lol) and you will be sitting properly.

The only problem is you will be closer to the computer,so you odda move the screen a bit farther away for the sake of your eyes,just keep your keyboard and mouse within reach =]

PS:Idk if this really helps,but I like to do it anyway,if your back hurts,just lie on the side of the bed and stretch out backwards so that your spine cracks up a bit,it feels so good <3

the third panel presents perfectly the most common way of sitting while working with a computer :D which is also my way (although, as every one of us probably knows, those ways may be very diverse and include standing on a chair, half-lying on a chair, kneeling ona chair and sometimes even kneeling by the table with the chair standing freely by your side)

Yeah, it definitely does look like that, but it's the most accurate that I could portray it. The worst cracks come from the joints between my spine and hip-bones and in my lowest part of the lower back.

What's horrible is that my sister does the "bend so close that it's not even funny".

However, she does have bad eyes (20/400 without the contacts), so she needs to get close to see the letters.

Still, she doesn't understand why she keeps getting headaches that come from the neck area. =\

The biggest problem is leaning over, and it tends to happen more if your lower back isn't quite strong enough (NOT the same as being in bad shape, dont' worry). I used to have the same problem before going to the gym.

Thanks for the tips, everyone from everywhere. WT-time runs weeks and sometimes months behind real-time, I've since made many modifications to the situation and life is much better! But I can't tell you how because that will spoil THE PLOT.

Hi Jam, it's Luis From Brazil, first post here (but long time reader - I love your comics!).

I'm an engineer gone awry, working in IT today (shaaame! lol), and obviously sitting on a chair all day long. I have had all the lower back problems you're having in this comic, but I must admit that I never saw the position you depicted in the second panel - that would be more like if you were worshipping the computer god in front of you, asking "O mighty computer, blast your rays of light through your LCD panel and make the pain go away!", hehehe!

Just one last thing - I really miss your 'sound fx' from the earlier comics - "Oh nous, clackety-clak, tapitha tapitha" and so on... they were always a big fun-factor for me. Maybe Jam is getting too serious at work???? :-/

Hi Kriztov,

absolutely nothing wrong, I really enjoy my job! It's just that feeling of, after five year studying engineering, I completely steered from that path to follow my IT career. You know that feeling of 'what if'... sort of what Jam feels about loving engineering and also at the same love drawing comics, but not having the time to do both the way she would like to - only in my case, it's impossible to share the time. At least, my background in electrical engineering helps me A LOT to deal with infrastructure problems (servers, links, etc), which is my job's line of work.

But again, IT is a great career to follow!

When viewing a lit screen, most people tend to lean forward. They don't exactly design chairs to accomodate this, especially not of the office variety.

A solution is to get a chair that leans waaaaaay the eff back and lets you slide right up against your desk. Or at least that's what has helped me since my first KRAK at the ripe ol' age of 22.

I like to lean back in my chair. When I'm at work, I lean forward a bit, but usually only when something stressful is afoot, or when I'm really into something. One thing I have found that can help the back is getting out of your chair often, which is why where I work I dont use many remote administration tools, so that I have to get out of my chair to do my work. Plus with all the walking, it prevents me from becoming a fat load. Just a pudgy dude. Semi-pudgy. You know, I'm not actually that bad.
