In the UK we get the opposite - spending your whole school and Uni life learning in Metric, then go to work for an Aero company where everything in the industry is still Imperial... :D

In the industry I work in, it's a huge mixture. We use map coordinate systems in meters, and talk about elevations in feet; distances in both meters and miles; it's all fairly silly.

this is very similair to what i had in games dev, one 3D program would do everything in metric and another in imperial and others did it in something completely different, for all we knew it could have been the average number of monkeys you could get in a barrel without them going crazy, since in the end all we did was measure everything in squares since thats the only thing all 3D programs seem to have in common

Sam - "so how big is it?"
Me - "bout 2 squares wide, 4 up"
Sam - "but aren't these square bigger than the hammer squares?!"
Me - "dude your face is a square >_<"

just multiply every end result by 42. think of it as presenting everything in the proper scientific notation but keeping the running result on hand for bigger, more accurate things.

or just have each end result as 42...<??? >___<??? >

Simperial should be made law (SI for maths but imperial for estimation in real life[measuring against one's body is such an awesome thing...:)])
this http://tommydoubleu.blogspot.com/2007/12/simperial-units.html gives some examples http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_unusual_units_of_measurement is also useful

nah, you have to deal with both systems always, sadly, because there are normalized items in one or the other.. I just hope you had to pass some results only and not every single thing... ^^;
