Just me and my shotgun and cr@ploads of ammo to deal with all those pesky ZOMBIES!!! But armor... hmm never thought of that. Maybe I would do the Cloud Strife, Final Fantasy 7 look, but with spikes and blades like Heavy Metal 2000 (clearly I have too much time on my hands planning these sorts of things)

I just watched the 4 first episodes of  The Walking Dead. Now I'm constantly looking around my room, thinking what I should bring when the zombies come. Up to now I've got: The cans of soup, my backpack with light change of cloathing, 2 flashlights, my slingshot, tent, sleeping mat, sleeping bag and one of my skateboards. Apocolypse or no, I got shred.

Am I the only one who has my closet organized based on relative usefullness in the case of apocalypse?

Okay, *now* I'm intrigued. What order do you have stuff arranged in? What do you percieve as being most important?

For instance, those heels are pretty but they'll probably snap right in half the first time I kick a zombie in the face and the straps on that shirt wouldn't hold up with any serious running. The TombRaider boots obviously need to be kept handy along with the green suede trenchcoat because that'll look Badd@$$ with the all the blades. Mostly though it's about sturdy clothes that will both hold up under duress and accessorize well with the required shoulder-spikes. I mean it's the apocalypse, it's not like you're going to get a wardrobe change twice a day or anything so you want your trademark outfit to be stylish but also useful in as many different scenarios as possible.

So did you actually purchase some of this stuff specifically with the Apocalypse in mind? I have to say that it's not something that I've given that much thought to... maybe I should have!

omniwarrior...you eventually run out of ammo, and material to reload shells, or make new ammo, with a shotty. Bring a good bow...use IT to collect guns and ammo at need. As a former soldier, I'll was told by a special tactics instructor "A knife is good to get a pistol, is good to get the proper gun for the environment". A bow has re-usable ammo, is silent, and the ones they make these days are accurate to 2.5" (all will land within a 5 inch diameter circle, around point of aim...IF the archer trains for it) at 90 yards

Thus, our own Zombie Apocalypse plans...didi up the pacific highway to the Kenworth semi cab dealership, about 2 miles away...steal a cab, haul it down to the RV lot in town, steal a big 5th wheel style camper, up the Mt Baker hwy to a plow station, where we can steal heavy duty plow blades, steel grating, all the various armor, as well as welding gear. Haul butt towards Montana/Dakotas/Wyoming bit of land, keeping an eye out for a tandem rig fuel truck we can steal the forward tank, and the link assembly from, to turn the rig into a tandem fuel hauler/armored RV, maintain it, even after we've gotten out to the lands where there ain't nothin walking on two legs, and you can see anything that is, from about a mile off.

Can't tell I have teenagers that share my enthusiasm for zombie movies, can you?

oops...started to say something else with "I'll was told", turned it into "I was told" without fixing...sorry about the glaring and grating illiteracy, folks...made my own teeth grind.

Cassandra, I think you are one of few. I remember a friend of mine having a 'Kit' ready in case he was ever encountered aliens. (like in Close Encounter of the Third Kind)

Wow, this is actually pretty great. I wonder if people really do have these types of conversations with each other. You know, asking things like what are you going to wear, what are you going to drive.

I think this mainly happens when they're young and carefree, without the weight of the world on their shoulders. In other words, before they've got kids. What happens at that point is that they can test it out for real, by buying 'suitable' clothes for them to wear...

You might suspect that I am trying to extrapolate Cassandra's long-term behaviour from this, but not necessarily - I can think of several alternative scenarios. Whatever the reason, it's fine by me though!

Psh are you kidding me?? More often than you would think. My boyfriend's father has an apocalypse plan made with all of his closest friends and family.

Of course, they will try and get to the nearest, emptiest state where no one lives.  then they're going to set up forth on the highest point. Everyone has jobs assigned to keep the place running.  Designated hunters, gatherers, guards, butcher, cooks, and so forth.

Then they're going to stay there until any sign of civilization coming back.

We've had that conversation at least 3 times in the past 2 years :D

And personally....I would totally go for the rugged Tomb Raider look too C: She looks great at all timea dn keeps functionality at a maximum!! :D

I don't think that the Steely Dan 'new frontier' (aka paranoid) people actually account for a lot of the clothes sales though; the market seems to be larger than that. And anyway, most of these plans would result in urban warfare not far down the line - if the apocalypse doesn't get you first, your Darwinian cousins probably will before long.

Personally I don't have any great hopes for, or expectations from an apocalypse. And I'm pretty sure I haven't got the clothes for it, regardless. I'm not sure which came first, the lack of suitable clothing or the lack of hope - probably the latter. But I'm quite cheerful though - don't get me wrong; I'm just fatalistic. And interested in why people do things!

The other thing that I think is that there's probably a sub-text behind the comic. Trevor says he'll probably wear what he is now, and Angela (who bought this up in the first place) clearly isn't too impressed... is this just a subtle way of discussing wardrobe issues in general?

Or is Angela just softening him up for the urban tank she's thinking about buying one day?

Well is she's subtly hinting at Trevor's fashios "problem", my boyfriend would have the same problem...as in cargo shorts all the time with some novelty t-shirt and some running shoes.

xD  I guess if you think about it their outfit is the epitome of carrying things since they have at LEAST 6 pockets per pairs of pants.  Ah well.

For me I was all Jeans and T-shirts until I got hitched. Now my wife has me in suits and stuff. I am trying the reverse with her. I am trying to get her to out of her modest clothing and into a bikini... or less. I guess women like more clothing whereas men like less.

I am guilty of the cargo shorts and tee shirt thing (jeans, cargo pants, or cammies in cold weather), myself...but I have a head start on urban warfare gear and super-cool futureistic looking apocalypse wear...I ride both dirt bikes and a crotch rocket...plenty of leather, plastic, rubber, and "hardened" gear to wear, in some pretty nicely designed color scheme.

Same with the boys (who are restricted to motocross gear, for the time being)...hardened plastic and leather gear, color co-ordinated, with heavy duty full face helments equipped with polarized goggles.

Drill some holes, screw in some oversized leather stud spikes, and we're a combination of Mad Max, Shadow Warriors, and Wraith...you gotta love it! (and yes, if the Zombie Apocalypse happened, we *would* wear these outfits, if outside a vehicle or defended building's protection...not likely a zombie will manage to bite through any of this gear to infect us, and it's designed to be difficult, if not impossible, to rip off)
