- After finishing this comic, I feel the need to clarify. I don't think assembling Ikea stuff is *difficult*, on the contrary I find it enjoyable. I'm just saying that had I KNOWN that Expedit was Swedish for "Held together with a million friggin' dowels", I might have reconsidered.

Let's not forget those "extra" pieces that you later realize weren't extra. =S
Mental note - Don't buy Ikea. If mechanical engineers pause; lord knows I don't have a shot.
I'm from Sweden and I can say, after lots of experience, that the IKEA furnitures takes lots and lots of patience and fire. And violence. Fire and violence solves everything.
I LOVE putting together furniture or really anything. The more frustrating the better for me oddly enough. I love things that are physically there and hard to solve. My desk that I'm typing on right now was a bit of frustration, it's made out of pulp wood and they have you drill holes in it to insert screws and a few other things. Let me tell you, drilling into pulp wood is NEVER a good idea, I have a few areas on this desk that's missing chunks, but regardless I got it together, and I love this desk because it HAD the extra room I needed...I filled it up with clutter.
Dania is owned by the same parent Ikea company. Ikea directions are a booklet, Dania is one sheet. Took me 3 hours to assemble my bed frame from Dania cause the directions were shit. Atleast Ikea tries a little harder. haha.
That's hilarious!
But really. All you have to do is read and follow the directions. When no one's looking of course... (This is why you build furniture alone.)
hehe, my bed is ikea, i sleeped on couch 2 days after we got it... -.-'' XD bestå is no the 1 u should buy, it's Pass in norwegian (not swedish) XD
Still better than target, i got a dresser from them and it fell apart in less than a day...>_<
ahhh ikea furniture. . .I remember once we had to build some sort of cabinet, and at the time it appeared the only way to get it done was to build it around me and then extract me from the finished product. Still don't know how we came to that conclusion. . .
oh my GOD lol! I have experienced this brand of suffering so many times ><
I once bought a build-it-yourself house from Ikea...I bought it 3 years ago...Still have yet to find the exit...

You need to use the Alan wrench!!
heh :D i also own the expedit thingy - nothing compared to my 'as cheap as it gets'-kitchen - took 3 people 3hours to build ONE of the cupboards - then we gave up o0
after 3months or so we were able to cook :p
Ha ha so true!
In the interests of "The moar you know*" I'll provide translations of the featured Ikea items:
Galant - Gallant (duh)
Bestå - Withstand
Expedit - Clerk
A bizarre mix of arbitrary nouns, verbs and occasionally adjectives. . . Ikea is weird that way.
AHHHHHHHHHHHH CRAP I JUST BOUGHT THE 5x5 EXPEDIT BOOKCASE AND DESK FOR MY APARTMENT NOOOOOOOOO this is gonna suck.
All of the furniture I own except for my bed and a dresser are from Ikea. Woo, assembly.
Maybe they could rate them like Japanese model kits? The Gallant desk would be HG (high grade), Besta...probably MG(master grade), and Expedit is a PG(perfect grade)
They are about as difficult to assemble and have a similar amount of parts per model type i'll bet. :)
O.K. what self-respecting Mecchie admits to having problems putting IKEA stuff together?
so, no idea if someone has posted this, but it was on the website here: http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/40047675
Two people are needed to assembly this furniture.
OMG I love IKEA. It's so much fun to go there and see everyone be all like "THIS IS SO NEW AND COOL" and have my mom be like "That was in Sweden generations before I was even born". lolz (My mom's a foreigner from Sweden, but you can't tell. No accent. =P)
I've come to call ikea's furniture "large scale 3d puzzles" for a reason.
i live 2 subways stations away from ikea. pretty much all my furniture is from there, haha
:c
Everyone knows that Ikea exists soley for meatballs, hot dogs and ice cream. Maybe some energy saving lightbulbs.
Biggest laugh was seeing an ikea in China..
I'm reminded of how gay I am when I read this comic, like I pine for player housing in WoW, when I go with my sister to the bay I 'like' fawning over the dish sets they have on display and I imagine myself buying a house then decorating them with said pretty things. Though I've no doubt my first furnishings will be thanks to IKEA.
I advice you to assemble that lying down on the side, if the picture looks anything like what really happened.
my father gave me a sub ... and is a fucking 5 level the more hard and have like a kabillion of tiny pieces ... i am goin to pay for some one do it and says i did
Omg! My hubby and I got the Galant Desk and the Expedit Shelf and that was exactly what happened too!! LOL.
My boyfriend and I have a ton of ikea stuff, it was all easy to put together till it came to our bed. Its like a figgen war breaks out between us durings its assembly, immeditly after we are fine.
Ikea: war starter?
