This happened a few weeks ago. It turned out ok, we got towed, and got the car fixed to a state where we could barely [BARELY] limp back to Vancouver. Since then we've had the entire engine replaced (yeah ouch. $$$)
On the plus side the new engine is much much younger. This poor abused Hyundai has driven us on many, many roadtrips (included x-Canada and back) and is continuously going to the trails and back. Honestly I'm pretty surprised it lasted this LONG without exploding.....

Justifible homicide. Seriously.
At least SOME-one's on my side!
That sucks. That would be the worst place to get stuck. Although I have to feel especialy bad for Trevor. It seems like a little bit of his soul died by not being able to go skiing XD.
Not too long ago my Hundai Sonata died, those things can last a long time but when they die man do they die. we had to basicaly do a total engine overhaul as well.
Yeah but look on the bright side - you do get some spectacular views from the side of Highway 99... take the train next time?
Did that trip a few years back, but in a rental car. Spent a while looking for the fabled bears in the car park at the back of Whistler, but never saw any. Strange place though - appears to have a complete college of some sort spread around the first floors of half of the shops!
Yes very nice until I'm at risk of plunging into the sea or having my soul ascend to the sky....
I don't think the train runs in the Whistler... or it certainly doesn't run early enough to get a good ski day out of it :(
Well since we can see Howe Sound in at least a couple of frames, I guess you didn't get as far as Squamish, even? Hardly half way! So even if the trains were running, it would have been a fair old hike to Lions Bay or Britannia Beach? Or am I reading too much into the pix?
OMG did you ever marry the right guy. Love it!
"WE'RE GONNA MISS ALL THE POWDER!" That would totally have been me in that scenario.
Similar thing happened to me. Big powder day came midweek. Called the Boss and took the day off. Filled the gas tank and headed up. About half the way up the truck cut all engine power. By the time I was stopped on the side there were flames shooting out from under the hood. After 10-20 minutes, a shutdown interstate, a firetruck, and a few police cars I was staring at a charred shell that used to be my truck. Fortunately I saved my skis, poles and coat. And the tow truck brought me and my charred shell into the nearest town. Unfortunately after trying to get a ride with about ten different groups at the gas station I was still stuck in town. I too missed all the powder. And that is a sad thing.
Ouf that sucks!!! :( Car maintenance is not the first thing you think of when you're trying desperately to get at that hill! The downfall of many a skiier I'm certain.
I have no idea what powder even is. D: But I'm sorry that all of that happened with your car. Panel nine is perfect.
Powder is brand-new snow that no-one has skiied on before and it is the best snow! Skiing on old snow is like riding a skateboard, skiing on powder is like falling through a cloud. An exhausting, thick cloud. It is the best!
Off piste powder is awesome but I don't have the money for the Avalanche course nor the RECCO/transceiver equipment. (After all, safety first right).
Also.... At least you're doing this now and not like 15-20 years ago. My dad was telling me about seeing a rolled over car on his way to Whistler while heading there for a site inspection back when it was all new developments and just starting to get more investment. Apparently driving that was almost like a deathtrap.
Are you putting your pants on your arms in frame two? I just picked up on that. ;)
You are drooling while you passed out on the car XD
And that was totally me =) I drag my friends to ski all the time when there's fresh powder and I get super pissed if they are not going.
XDDD he was a good man.
