[DAILY] JAM II day 34

I guess I'm a horrible liar :oops: As it turns out, I really really *liked* drawing a little every day!
So I bring you Daily Jam II! But I'm doing this one different than the last. This time, instead of every day being a complete piece, this time every day will be an update on a work-in-progress, or WIP. This is good for me because it means that I can put the work towards bigger, nicer pieces, functional pieces.
The drawback of this style is that skipped days will be just that - skipped days. There will be no makeups. So it can be expected that I'll update a little M-Th, but on the weekends (F,S,S) there will either be NO work or LOTs of work, depending on what kind of weekend it is 0_o;
As it happens this was the kind of weekend where I just felt like drawing o_o plus Trevor's brother was over and we watched the Godfather. I don't know if you have ever seen those movies, but they're FRIGGIN LONG! And as I was drawing at the time I ended up finishing the first piece :shock:
So I bring you the first piece:
Pat: The protagonist of Tangle pt III
I wanted to draw Pat in her school uniform, because currently no colour refs for it exist and I think it's cute ^_^ Also, as the comic goes along we don't see much of Pat in her uniform anymore :/ So here's Pat, her carefree happy self. She's probably one of my happiest chars lol Her hair is weird, though, there's so much of it, it's like a giant blonde cake! *L*
And here's the first day of the next piece: Harmony
I'm still fussing with the lines on this one, still not happy >_<

YAY! i art a big fan of your... art... Pat looks great, and the people on snafu who said she looks manish are blind and don't recognize the real female form. nice hourglass shape and not a tiny fragile chin. BTW the freckles are both cute and show that you pay attention to detail. i love it.
Harmony is looking good though the her right hand wing looks odd, but it's only roughed in so... no biggie.
love the art can't wait to see more.

Welcome to the forums, Marek, and thanks ^_^ I'm glad you like the freckles, it's not so much an "attention to detail" thing as just one of those things that's always been there. Freckles, Brown Eyes, and blonde, black-tipped hair are the traits that run in her family :)
My computer keeps crashing, I lost the image I was working on and it seems to be crashing again on this one! I'm not sure DJ will survive long enough to be saved today! :( :(

Because of a bunch of jerks who get off on hurting other people's feelings, I've decided to scrap the first image and redo the whole damn thing. Whatever. PLUS my computer hates me and crashed a million times while I was trying to draw it. I ended up having to prntscrn>paint and restart. Let me tell you, a prntscrn does NOT enjoy being rescaled back up to 300dpi.
Well whatever, here's the sketch:
Pat and Harmony
I like this one somewhat better, it's more dynamic. It's still in a very abrupt phase because I did this layer somewhat speedily, so a lot of things will be refined in the inks.
Crits are welcome here provided a) they are CONSTRUCTIVE, b) they're not retartedly nitpicky and c) you don't phrase them in such a way that I'm going to want to CUT you.
More tomorrow.

People who are jerks are jerks.... wait...
Anywho.. I'm liking this new one as well. though two things catch my eye and they both involve harmony's feet.
1. her left foot looks like it is turned out way too far, at least with a viewable sole it looks like it's turned at a 90 in the wrong direction. that could hurt in real life. easy touch up in inks though.
2. Also an easy fix in inking, her right leg is currently behind Pat's, if pat is pulling harmony toward her it looks like she would trip her. it would probably look better if harmony's leg was in front of pat's and maybe not so far back. but that's me.
Everything else looks great keep it up. i love to see more.

Maybe Pat is tripping Harmony, and to try to save from falling, she is making an akward step that causes her foot to twist outwards.

No, no worries, Marek ^_^ You're right, I fixed it, I was just kidding... :P
Crits on form and composition are best in the sketch phase, detail and tweaks are best critted in the inks phase, and colour and shading best critted in the colour phase, so of course I welcome the most crits in the sketch phase when I can still change them!
Ugggh anyway it was a pretty sucky day today, I had so much work to do ;___; I started this at midnight... I only got this far in an hour, but it's a fairly complex image so that's ok.

Looks wonderful. Pat's ear is kinda square, but that may be something you planned.... Can't wait to see the color version.
stop being so busy! more art less work! BAH!
I wish i could draw by hand... all my art is created with shapes and layers in photoshop... can't get as much detail as i'd like... arg. you make me jello.. er jelous.. jealous? i can't spell. mmm jello.....

*heart* I'm so glad that you started up the 'Daily Jam' again! I enjoyed it whilst it lasted, and I enjoy the pictures of Pat even moe!
woo, big thumbs up from me! Sometime you should post a step-by-step of one of your drawings. I would be intrested to see it and to hear how you do what you do. :)

Yey got flats done today.
Another long-ass and trying day today, so I'm kind of surprised I got my flats done!! Flatting is the longest and toughest (most boring) part of CG so I'm happy I only need to do fun stuff now :)
I changed Pat's hair a bit because it was bugging me. Otherwise, I'm pretty happy with the colours ^_^

Eh, it's aiight, it takes awhile to do but not necessarily any longer than any other way, that's why I kind of like it. Trev doesn't particularly like this style, though, and he thinks I should go back (wayyy back lol) to cell shading x_x eugh I dono. Colouring has never been my thing, and cell shading is ok, but it leaves something lacking sometimes, and it's definitely a very "anime" thing, which is something I've been trying to get away from.

hmm.. thems be tiny wings for a guy that large. And his jaw seems too pointy for a guy, but then again he apears to be based on an elven look.. so... i'll shut up.

Yeah Ten's wings are symbolic, they're not like Jélical wings so I draw them a different size every time. Sometimes they're just perched decoratively on his back (like now) and other times they're full-sized, sometimes they're not even there or not attached lol.
I'm still fussing with the jaw, Ten has a very angular face ^_^;

Daily Jam today is The TWENTY FUCKING ONE new WT's. lol
Otherwise all I did was slap on some yellow.
No inks, I'm planning on making this one a quasi-digi-painting. Yeah we'll see how that goes.
