#799 - Anatomy of a First Year
Yes... there really were toga parties ... at least at UBC! The reason we called First Years "PP"s is because the engineering undergraduate society used to call groups in alphabetical order... and so they intentionally named the First Years "ZZs". Then one day all the first years packed the meeting and passed a motion to change their name to "AA" so they would go first. Of course, the very next week, the rest of the engineers voted to run the meetings in REVERSE alphabetical order.
Later they came to a compromise and renamed them "PP" so they would be in the middle of the pack.
That's the way the legend goes, anyway...
