I had a revelation. I enjoy biking. I also enjoy snow. What could be better than the union of the aforementioned biking and snow?
To kick off this extreme sport, many factors have to fall into place. Your bike must be crappy. Preferably with street slicks.
The next factor is a country that is completely useless when it comes to dealing with snow. That way, you'll have snow buildup to plow through.
The hardest part to plan is a freak snowstorm. But hey, you never know.
The last piece of the puzzle is to completely underdress. Cheap shoes, shorts, and some sort of jacket/helmet combo work best. Gloves are optional, but don't get good ones. Without frostbite, you have no street cred.
I know all of these sound great, so just imagine how awesome they would be together.
The first day was good. Breaking trail in fresh powder on a cycle that is as stable as a dime balanced on the back of a buffalo.
The second day was where the line between winners and losers was drawn. The road was full of frozen ruts. I may or may not have drifted around a corner with one foot on the ground.
The third day was sensational. Back to fresh powder, with a heavy salt mix. I took a corner with too much gusto and pulled a sweet tabletop-slide. I even had a fellow snow-crosser stop to congratulate me.
The best part of this sport is how you can walk into a building and conversations stop once they see you. Everyone knows they can't compete with a champion of your caliber. Once you demonstrate your swaggering limp from the sweet tabletop corner, they will all try to talk you out of your new sport. Don't fall victim to their jealousy. Keep on riding!

Madman :D
That said, I do love the cold. While others wear sweaters I wear t-shirts. I'd rather have it too cold than too warm. There's only so many clothes one can take off. Stupid life-giving sun *shakes fist*
Extreme!
You should go get a sponsor for that!
It could start a new trend!
"EXTREME SNOW BIKING TO WORK - IF YOU DON'T DO IT YOU'RE A PANSY!"
Quit your day job Red, you've started the sport of the century!
If I quit my job, it wouldn't fall under the banner of EXTREME COMMUTING! It would just be me riding in the snow.
Still awesome, but less style points.
Let's work this one out using basic math.
No Job = Still awesome, but less style points
Then 2 jobs must = Really awesome, and more style points
So As the jobs increase so does the awesome! Or at leats the Style points xP
Lol. Dude, that's sounds like a lot of fun. Too bad it never snows where I live (ah, the good 'ol crappy, muggy, Southern states...) I just brave myself scaling steep slopes. (That are like, 15 feet tall. -_-; Not impressive at all) My bike enjoys mud and street terrain. |3
Oh goodness, my road bike does not permit me to ride in the snow... hell... it barely handles on the gravel the snow leaves behind when it leaves in dirty water form. ._.
