[Red] Laser Eye Surgery - Part 2

Red's picture

I'm now on to the day of recovery, and I have to say that it is really uneventful.

I had to tape shields over my eyes to ensure that I wouldn't rub my eyes before I woke up enough to remember that is the cardinal sin with eye surgery.

I was hoping for some eye shields that would afford me some dignity, but that was not the case. Taped to my face.

I can'e get water on my eyes for 2 weeks, so showering is going to be interesting. While I might upload pictures of crappy eye-shields and gross eye close-ups, my showering technique is a trade secret. I'm not about to put it on display. In the shower, I tried to take off my glasses - that really made my day.

Today, I was still a little light sensitive, but was able to attend my followup exam without any sun blocking.

The exam was a very brief 'read the letters' then the optometrist looked at my eyes through some machine. Nothing sensational, or even worth commenting on, really. After that, I was discharged until a followup appointment in a month.

Still putting in drops every 2 hours, still can't get my eyes wet, or touch them. Still have to treat them special. Still missing some close-range vision. Still not sure how the night vision is. Maybe I'll check that out tonight.

Why not just wear swimming goggles?

I asked about that. Swimming goggles are banned, too.

On the plus side, tomorrow is 2 weeks. It's sad how much I'm looking forward to being able to rub my eyes and shower normally.

Thanks for posting these up Red. I myself have been part of the glasses club since I was a kid. I suppose with both parents needing glasses it was inevitable. I've always been interested in getting laser eye surgery but could never really find a good account of what actually happens. Please keep posting these updates, I'd be very interested to know your final opinion on the procedure, whether or not it was worth it.

It would be particularly awesome to never again start the day with having to crawl around on the floor looking for my glasses after having knocked them off the bedside table onto the floor. Then accidently hitting them while sweeping my hand across the floor for them and sliding them underneath my bed. Then realising after 10 minutes that the glasses are actually just down the side of the bedside table.

Cue sigh of relief, then realisation that what I knocked under the bed was my ID/Pass card for work. Arrrggghh!

yeah I'm in the glasses-since-a-little-child club as well...
but In my case it is quite interesting-- One of my parents has perfect vision, while the other needs glasses.
so, in a strange sort of way, I ended up with perfect vision in one eye. and not-so-perfect vision in the other. which means that I can't correct it with laser surgery. >..<
which kinda sucks, but I mean at least I can see without my glasses.... I just see two of everything (I developed a Lazy eye b/c of my condition.)
