I may or may not have decided to wake up to watch the Canada/USA game, and despite the game itself, I think I'm most enjoying the BBC coverage.
The play-by-play announcer is commenting on beach balls in the stands. He's using words like 'extradite' and 'fractious' and has referenced Liverpool football club. One hit was talked about while the play went from one end, to the other, and back again. At the end of the second period, he referred to the buzzer as the 'hooter'.
If I was listening on the radio I would be really angry, but watching it on TV is awesome.
If only the 3rd period turns around.
Edit: But what the hell is with the giant block of empty seats?

The empty seats have been getting a lot of press coverage here.
The word is that they are reserved for Olympic Athletes, and press, I think? But if they don't show up they don't have a plan (yet) to give them out :(
I've been watching the skiing, but the commentator made special reference to the female Canada v Slovakia Ice hockey; 18 - 0 in 36 sec! Here's the footage: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympic_games/vancouver_2010/ice_hockey/8515564.stm
Sorry about the coverage, ice hockey isnt as big over here - i don't even know the rules! But I wouldn't tell the local team... :D
I was going to watch but work was being terribly unsporting and shifted my away from my "Vancouver TimeZone" (aka night) shifts to a 9am for MON so whilst normally I'd have watched I couldn't.
Glad I didn't watch really... sounds gut wrenching...
What I'd give to sit at a hockey match with a large hotdog and coke...
Before coming to Canada I didn't even have the first clue about hockey and now that I'm here I'm wondering why England is missing out on such a great sport.
I guess they booted the last guy back to the cricket pitch because the announcer at the Canada/USA womens gold medal game is much better. Still Britsh, still calls them 'netminders' but doesn't provide painstaking detail of the coverage of beach balls. Even the clip of Harper sitting with Gretzky was just a side note.
Speaking of the game (because nobody at work will have watched it. Even if it didn't start at 11:30). How about Shannon Szabados? With her performance in the first 2 periods, I wouldn't be surprised if she was half Canadian, half-brick wall.
I only saw the first period,so I saw the two goals, and it was amazing! I was really getting into it, I'm not usually this vocal about a sport except rugby.
But that is exactly how my flatmate described her; half human, half brick wall. She must of done the splits a 100 times in that match, Szabados is a legend - well deserving that gold medal!
I think they asked her what she was going to do next, and she said "I dono, I guess I'll go back to playing on Men's College hockey teams!"
I can only dream of a future of mixed-gender hockey... <3
I sincerely got a kick from your article. I really do not truly have much to say in response, I only wanted to comment to reply great work.
